The National Commission on Disability is a national body in Guyana that promotes and protects the rights of persons with disabilities. It also serves as a major source of information on disability-related issues.

The mission of the NCD is to influence policy changes and enforcement of laws that protect the rights of persons with disabilities, and to be a major source of information on disability issues in Guyana.

NCD’s vision is to support a society where persons with disabilities enjoy their rights and are able to lead full and productive lives.

NCD provides several services, including registration of persons with permanent disabilities, disability awareness outreach, accessibility guidance, disability identification cards, discrimination reporting support, duty-free concession processing, and referrals to service providers.

Persons with permanent disabilities in Guyana can register with the NCD. Registration helps the Commission better support persons with disabilities and connect them to relevant services and opportunities.

Yes. The NCD supports the development and distribution of identification cards for persons with disabilities.

Yes. The NCD advises organisations, private agencies, and other stakeholders on accessibility guidelines to help ensure spaces and services are more inclusive for persons with disabilities.

Yes. The NCD operates a Discrimination Report Desk for persons with disabilities who may need support or guidance relating to discrimination concerns.

Yes. The NCD facilitates the initial processing of duty-free concessions on vehicles for eligible persons with disabilities.

Yes. The NCD conducts outreach activities and sensitisation workshops to educate groups and organisations about disability rights, legislation, and inclusion.

Yes. The NCD refers persons with disabilities to service providers such as Food for the Poor, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, and other relevant agencies where appropriate.
